Selbstsichernde Ringe sorgen für einen mechanischen Eingriff über eine kleine Lasche am Ring, die in eine entsprechende Nut in der gegenüberliegenden Windung einrastet und verhindert, dass sich der Ring aufgrund von Zentrifugalkräften bei hohen Drehzahlen aus der Nut ausdehnt. Die Position des Verriegelungsmechanismus kann durch die Anwendungsanforderungen diktiert werden. Innen- und Außenverriegelungen sind einfacher zu installieren (insbesondere wenn es sich um Material mit kleinem Durchmesser oder schwerem Querschnitt handelt) und ermöglichen eine einfache visuelle Bestätigung der ordnungsgemäßen Installation.
