Sie werden im Allgemeinen in statischen Anwendungen eingesetzt und sind so konzipiert, dass sie unter extremsten Arbeitsbedingungen ein hohes Flüssigkeits- oder Gasdichtigkeitsniveau bieten. **Allgemeine Eigenschaften** - Größen von 5 mm bis 7 Meter - Temperaturgrenzen von kryogen bis +750°C - Druck von Ultrahochvakuum bis über 500 MPa - Kann eine Dichtigkeit von über 10-9 mbar.l/s erreichen - Hervorragende Beständigkeit gegen Korrosion und Strahlung - Behält die Elastizität oder „Rückfederung“ über eine längere Lebensdauer bei - Leidet nicht unter explosiver Dekompression - Querschnitt von 0,8 mm bis 12,5 mm - Erhältlich in Kreis-, Rennbahn-, Oval- und anderen Formen Das Dichtungskonzept einer Metalldichtung basiert auf der elastischen Verformung der Dichtung unter Druck, die wiederum für einen konstanten Kontaktpunkt auf jeder Dichtfläche sorgt. Im Gegensatz zu Flachdichtungen sind Metalldichtungen nicht auf enorme Klemmkräfte angewiesen, um die Dichtheit aufrechtzuerhalten. Durch das Zusammendrücken der Dichtung auf ein definiertes Maß entsteht eine Sitzkraft. Die Form der Dichtung bestimmt die „Rückfederung“ oder Elastizität der Dichtung. Je nach Anwendung gibt es drei Arten der Siegelerregung, die verwendet werden können, um die perfekte Siegelung zu erzielen. **Selbsterregung** Durch den Einsatz unterschiedlicher Dichtungsmaterialien und Wärmebehandlungsverfahren ergeben sich unterschiedliche Federhärteeigenschaften, die bei Druckbelastung für eine definierbare und konstante Federkraft sorgen. **Druck-Energetisierung** Metalldichtungen können entweder die hydrostatischen Kräfte nutzen, die durch das abzudichtende Medium erzeugt werden, oder sie werden unabhängig voneinander mit Gas gefüllt, um das höchste Maß an Abdichtung zu erreichen. **Federerregung ** Metalldichtungen können mit einer internen Feder ausgestattet werden, um größere Druckbelastungen bereitzustellen.
